Sidemount Training Now Possible in the Oberpfalz
24 Aug 2020
by Christian Jobst

On the weekend from 22 Aug 2020 to 23 Aug 2020, a sidemount diving specialty took place at Tauchershop Pohl in Burglengenfeld together with the Freitagstaucher. In order to obtain authorization for this special course, our VIT diving instructor Christian Jobst had to develop and carry out a pilot course for this special course. This was accepted by the director of training of the VIT Josef Grimm.

As part of the course, the three participants were given theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject of sidemount diving, especially with regard to safety and the possible equipment configurations and their use. After a morning of theoretical training with assembling, adjusting and configuring the equipment, the practical training took place at Murner See near Wackersdorf. Here, among other things, gas management, buoyancy compensator and fin exercises as well as rescue ascents were trained in four training dives. In addition to the normal training, an extremely eventful night dive was carried out.

We congratulate Christian Jobst on having passed the instructor for sidemount diving and wish him many eventful, successful and, above all, accident-free training dives! If you are interested to become also sidemount instructor at VIT, you are welcome to contact our director of training Josef Grimm (
